What is today breakdown going to be about? Well I am glad you ask! RWBY is today main topic, and boy let me tell you how excited I am to talk about this series. Some of you are probably thinking … well how is it even yuri related ( I said this in a different voice) well my yuri friends bare with me, because I promise I will explain how RWBY is related to yuri. In this break down I am going to talk about the following topics, the plot, the characters, the animation, the yuri, and of course give my overall thoughts.
Please note the following breakdown will have a crap load of SPOILERS! So proceed with very very carefully! On that note I would like to remind you that this breakdown will be based off my opinion for the most part. Remember whatever doesn’t come out of my mouth will be sourced.
Season 1: A young hero, an exalted heiress, a troubled rogue, and a party girl. These are the four members of RWBY, a team brought together and trained for the sole purpose of combating the rampant evils that plague the fantastic world of Remnant. Ruby Rose is a young girl who has just been accepted to Beacon Academy. This school was founded to train the monster-slayers known as Huntsmen and Huntresses. However, Ruby will not be alone. Upon arriving at Beacon, she is promptly paired with Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and her sister, Yang Xiao Long. If these four girls want to graduate they’ll have to learn to work together both on the battlefield and in the classroom.
Season 2: Team RWBY is back and ready for their second semester at Beacon, an academy that trains the world’s strongest fighters. But real life doesn’t stop there. Between classes and homework, they still have to find time to save the world. And between the White Fang, Roman Torchwick, and the emergence of a mysterious new trio, they certainly have their work cut out for them!
Season 3: The Vytal Festival Tournament is the ultimate battle of skill, pitting the world’s most powerful Huntsmen and Huntresses in training against one another… and it’s finally here! Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are back for a tournament full of over-the-top action, and they’re not alone. New fighters from around Remnant are ready to bring glory to their own kingdoms, but there are those among them with a far more sinister goal in mind, that will change the world of Remnant forever and leave nothing the same again…
Season 4: It’s been several months since the Fall of Beacon, and the world of Remnant is still recovering. Tensions are high, lives have been lost, and the members of Team RWBY… are divided. Each of our heroines now faces a journey of their own. While some must search inward if they ever hope to move on, others will venture out into the world in search of answers. Alongside the remaining members of Team JNPR, Ruby Rose has begun the long trek to the kingdom of Mistral, but the road ahead is full of surprises. New friends and enemies await, while the threat of an even larger catastrophe draws near.
Season 5: Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are each entangled in journeys of their own, but they all share one destination: Haven Academy. Whether it’s the promise of ancient relics, mystical maidens, or simply more power, it’s clear that the stage for the next great battle for Remnant has been chosen. The question is, with so many players in this game, who’s going to come out on top? (Source all plot summaries come from TvTropes)
Where do I even begin, because Rwby plot is so damn awesome, and there is so much to talk about. Basically the series follows four cute girls name Ruby Weiss, Blake, and Yang. Each of the following characters mentioned have their own weapon, and powers. The four girls all happen to attend Beacon Academy in the city of Vale, where they are trained to become Huntresses. A Huntresses is someone who hunt down Grimm a creature, or a monster of some sort that are describe as “creatures of destruction”. While Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang attend Beacon Academy they form team RWBY. Team RWBY end up going on a lot of crazy kick ass adventures that will leave you on the edge of the bed, or chair, whatever edge it may be wanting more. They also go on these adventures with team JNPR which include the following members Juane, Nora, Pyrhha, and Lie. Throughout the series the two teams encounter a lot obstacles they must overcome … like when Yang loses her arm, or when Pyrhha well I won’t say what happens to Pyrhha, because that is a major spoiler. However, these obstacles rather they are big or small help each team grow to become stronger. I truly do love RWBY plot it is has everything I look for in a series. The plot of this series never bores me that is for sure.
I am going to try, and not make this section so long, but I will not make any promises for I want to make sure you have al the information needed at hand. Definitely if you have not watched RWBY yet.
Ruby Rose is a former student of Beacon Academy and the main protagonist of RWBY. Ruby’s weapon of choice is her High-Caliber Sniper-Scythe known as Crescent Rose. She first appeared in the “Red” Trailer visiting the grave of her deceased mother, Summer Rose. After an invitation from Headmaster Ozpin following an altercation with Roman Torchwick, Ruby attends Beacon Academy in order to become a Huntress. During her time at Beacon, she becomes the leader of Team RWBY, consisting of Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and her half-sister,Yang Xiao Long. However, following the Fall of Beacon, Ruby travels to Haven Academy as a member of Team RNJR with the remaining members of Team JNPR. After the Battle of Haven, Team RWBY is reunited.
Ever since she was little, Ruby has had a romanticized view of the Huntsman profession. She is quick to reveal she wanted to become a Huntress in order to be like the great heroes in fairy tales, and she has described being one as far more “romantic” than being a police officer. Her mentality is described as “I don’t have time for my emotions. I’ve gotta make sure that everybody else is okay.” She has also shown a distinct lack of ability picking up social cues due to being a very open and honest person. This results in her inability to pick up Weiss’ sarcasm in the “The Shining Beacon” and her struggling to act formally in “It’s Brawl in the Family”. (Source Wiki Fandom)
Monty Oum had said that everything has been decided for Weiss in her life, and because of it, she is a bit of a rebel. This manifests itself in her physical appearance as she wears her ponytail to the side of her head, disrupting the symmetry of the rest of her outfit. When Professor Port states that Weiss has received everything she wanted in life, she responds that it is not entirely true, thinking of her father’s attitude. She takes pride in her name and the company, though, as seen when she first meets Blake Belladonna, when she discusses it with her team in Mountain Glenn and when she confronts her father over it.(Source Wiki Fandom)
Blake Belladonna is a former student at Beacon Academy and one of the main protagonists of RWBY. Her weapon of choice is a Variant Ballistic Chain Scythe (VBCS) named Gambol Shroud. She first appeared in the “Black” Trailer alongside Adam Taurus, her then-boyfriend, partner and mentor in the White Fang, a Faunus terrorist group. After leaving the organization, Blake enrolled at Beacon Academy, where she becomes a member of Team RWBY alongside Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee and Yang Xiao Long.
Blake is described as being “mellow” by her voice actress, Arryn Zech. She displays a cool, reserved, and serious personality most of the time but does not lack a humorous side usually in the form of dry wit and sarcasm. Blake is a righteous person, respecting other people’s lives regardless of whether they are Faunus. She strongly despises those who judge and discriminate based on racial prejudice. Blake is outspoken, going so far as to indirectly insult the Schnee Dust Company in front of its heiress and defend Faunus of any kind.(Source Wiki Fandom)
Yang Xiao Long
Yang Xiao Long is a former student at Beacon Academy and one of the main protagonists of RWBY. Her weapons of choice are a pair of Dual Ranged Shot Gauntlets, Ember Celica. She made her first appearance in the “Yellow” Trailer, searching for clues regarding the whereabouts of her mother, who left her when she was very young. At Beacon, Yang becomes a member of Team RWBY alongside her younger half-sister Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee and Blake Belladonna.
Yang’s voice actress, Barbara Dunkelman, has said that when Yang’s character was described to her, she was described as “the kind of person who would teach someone how to swim by pushing them in the water”. This speaks volumes about how Yang approaches most things in life. She is very straightforward and confident. Yang is also described as being a cheerful, energetic and bright young lady. She is arguably the most flippant, carefree and adventurous member of her team, frequently making sarcastic comments and jokes even in the heat of battle and often taking combat and hostile situations lightly. Yang is very sociable and extroverted, even in unfamiliar situations. Yang’s love of adventure is the main reason she decided to become a Huntress. Blake considers Yang the personification of the word “strength”.(Source Wiki Fandom)
JNPR (pronounced “Juniper”) is a team of students from Beacon Academy. In “Players and Pieces”, the team had its first fight together against a Death Stalker. Later in the same episode, the team was officially formed. During initiation, the team retrieved the White Rook pieces. After the death of their team member, Pyrrha Nikos in “End of the Beginning”, the three remaining members continue to work together, along with Ruby Rose, the former team leader of the fractured Team RWBY, whom they also formed Team RNJR with. Prepare yourself because RWBY has a lot of interesting characters you will meet throughout the series. However, the characters you will want to know the most about are on team RWBY, and team JNPR. The characters in this series are just fun. You either grow to love certain characters, or you absolutely despise certain characters. There really is no middle. The characters looks aren’t that amazing, but do improve as each season progresses. I will talk more about the characters looks when we get to the animation section. Each character really does have a in depth story to tell definitely are four main girls Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang. For example, we learn that Weiss may have a stuck up attitude, and a lot of family pride … she is actually very lonely. Ruby shows throughout the series that she sometimes indecisive, but at the end of the day she seems to make the right choices for the team. We discover with Blake that she has a very hard time being honest with her team, and friends, but as the series progress she learns that it is okay to rely on friends to an extent lol. Yang may be hot headed at times, but we also get to see the sweet caring side of Yang … definitely when it comes to Blake WINK WINK! Team JNPR add a great mix to the show as well I would highly recommend reading up on each of the characters in team JNPR.
I can’t tell you how long it took me to finally watch RWBY, because the animation is so shitty lmao. However, I will say as the seasons progress the animation has slowly gotten better, but man oh man it took a lot for me to get over the style of animation they used for RWBY. The 3d thing has never been a favorite of mine personally. I think it made the characters look like complete crap. I actually wished the characters look more like they do in the manga they have published. It would be much more appealing to the eyes. If the plot wasn’t so damn good I wouldn’t have kept with the series, because of the animation being that bad lol.
I will say though the fight scenes in are really well done, and honestly they really have improved a lot with the animation. I think if you are like me, and don’t care for the 3d style animation you will get a kick out of the fight scenes. The fight scenes are very exciting, and thrilling.
Let me explain that RWBY is not labeled as a yuri yet … the yuri from this series comes from shipping, and fanfics. Popular ships like Ruby x Weiss, and my personal favorite is Yang x Blake. Fear not my yuri friends keep your goggles on for you will understand once you start watching RWBY why people ship are main gals together, or shipped them with other cuties in the series.
Their first interaction was in volume 1, chapter 3, where Yang wanted to help Ruby make new friends. Blake first seems to have no patience with the 2, only wanting to go back to being alone. Yang says that she’s a “lost cause”, although when they’re picking partners, she seems happy to be Blake’s partner. Even though Blake is known to be the cold and mysterious person in the team, Yang makes her smile on several occasions after they become partners.
In the episode Burning The Candle, Yang tries to get Blake to relax from investigating the White Fang and just attend the dance. She confronts her and actually got her to go after relating to her and showing her that she cares about her a lot.In the episode Heroes And Monsters, Yang chooses to go find Blake other than her missing sister. When she finds Blake, Adam says that he’ll “Destroy everything that she(Blake) loves”. Then when Yang arrives, he points at her saying “Starting with her”. Blake then shows a horrified face, which confirms Adam’s assumption. Yang get’s angrier than she ever has in the entire series and get’s her arm taken off when she recklessly charges in. Ruby bumps into Weiss, Making her drop her bags and dust, Weiss starts to complain about Ruby’s carlessness then leaves after getting roasted by Blake. Then Ruby shouts “I Promise I’ll make this up to you!” Later Ruby finds Yang and tells her about Weiss, Weiss walks up to Ruby and again complains, then hands her a Schnee Dust Company Panfelt. And tell Ruby “You really wanna start making this up to me? Read this and never talk to me again.” At Night, Weiss again walks up to Ruby and complains about her being too loud and that people are trying to sleep.Later in the morning, Weiss becomes Ruby’s Partner, which leads to Weiss saying “Does this by no means make us friends.” And Ruby saying “You came back!” From walking away the first time, Picking Ruby over Jaune.
Weiss continues to call out Ruby for being too fast and messing up her attacks. While Ruby doubts if shes going the right way or not to the relics.Ruby convinces Weiss that Riding a Nevermore will be the quickest way to get to the relics. After they mount the Nevermore Weiss says “I told you this was a bad idea!”They find the relics and take down the Nevermore and a Deathstalker with help from Blake, Yang, Jaune, Pyrrha, Nora, And Ren. After team RWBY forms, Weiss has doubts about Ruby being the team leader, calls her out of it, and asks Port and Oz for advice. Later offers Ruby Coffee, and any help she needs. The finally start to become friends. (Source Wiki Volume 1)
Besides the crappy animation RWBY is truly a magnificent series to watch if you can get past the animation, but I promise it is worth sucking it up, because the plot is so damn good, and intense. I probably binged watch RWBY in like two weeks, because I got so hooked. The plot isn’t just darn right superb, but you get to meet so many cool characters that you never get bored with seeing the same characters over, and over because there are so many characters involved in this series. I am serious if you haven’t watched RWBY I suggest you start now because season six is coming sometime in October my yuri friends, and trust me I am going to talk about it a lot.
